FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — The Floyd County Sheriff's Department hosted several church safety training sessions for pastors and church members who wanted to learn more about protecting their congregation from potential violence.

Over 200 individuals attended the sessions. The department also asked for ideas for future trainings. The sessions were started in response to violent incidents in religious communities across the country.

"I want to say 'thank you' to all of our pastors and church members who attended our security training over the last couple weeks. We were pleased that over 200 individuals participated and It was truly a great pleasure for us. I hope each person who attended and participated found it to be of some benefit. If anyone has ideas of how or what we can do in the future to support our churches and better help protect their congregations, please feel free to call me or any of my staff and share your ideas," reads a post on the department's Facebook page.
