KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) - — A former Knox County magistrate has been arrested on federal drug charges, Kentucky state police confirm.
Jerry "Rabbit" Cox was arrested on a federal indictment warrant for six counts of Distribution of Controlled Substances – Hydrocodone. Cox turned himself in to DEA custody at 11 a.m. The alleged transactions occurred while Cox was a sitting magistrate.
Cox ran an unsuccessful re-election bid that spring but lost in the May primary election. He had also been previously acquitted of misappropriating county funds.
The charges are the result of a joint investigation between Appalachia Narcotics Investigations and the DEA.
