GEORGETOWN, Ky. (LEX 18) - — A shooting victim in Georgetown has passed away nearly a week after he was rushed to the hospital.
According to the Scott County Sheriff's office, Richard Barkley, 79, was pronounced dead at UK Medical Center in Lexington Thursday. Police say on July 31, that man's 16-year-old grandson shot him at his home on Barkley Road in Sadieville. The boy's grandmother was assaulted and the family dog was killed.
Officials say that the charges against the man's grandson, a juvenile, are expected to be upgraded. He is currently facing charges of first-degree assault, fourth-degree domestic assault and second-degree cruelty to an animal.
