FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) — On Saturday night, Gov. Matt Bevin and Gov.-Elect Andy Beshear put their differences aside to light the capitol Christmas tree.

Before the tree lighting, there was a parade that ended on Capitol Avenue.

The two haven't always been cordial, but parade attendees said they were excited the two came together for the event. "I don't think this is a time for political tension at all. I think this is a time to be close with our families and fellow Kentuckians, and I'm glad Gov. Matt Bevin invited Beshear to this," said Jonah Fern.

Beshear said he is excited for the future of Kentucky.

"Our inauguration is about Team Kentucky, that we are all on the same team trying to move this state forward, that we have more in common than would ever divide us," said Beshear.

Beshear will take over as governor on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
