GEORGETOWN, Ky. (LEX 18) — One driver was severely injured early Monday morning in a head-on crash near a Georgetown middle school.
The crash happened around 6 a.m. on Champion Way outside of Royal Spring Middle School on Georgetown's north side.
Traffic was being blocked along Champion Way as crews worked to secure the scene. The roadway was reopened around 6:30 a.m.
Officials tell LEX 18 that each vehicle had only a driver an no occupants. One of the drivers was severely injured in the crash while the other received only minor injuries.
Authorities said the severely injured driver was nonetheless stable and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Witnesses told police that one car crossed into oncoming traffic but it was not clear why. The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
