The Perry County Sheriff's Office has provided more information to the public regarding an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) accident that resulted in the death of a minor on Saturday.
According to Perry County Sheriff Joe Engle, the department was notified of an ATV accident in the Vicco community around 9 p.m. on Saturday.
Engle stated that a 16-year-old female was driving three passengers in an ATV when she lost control of the vehicle in an embankment. A female minor was in the passenger seat, and two male adults were in the back. In the accident, the female minor sitting in the passenger seat died, and one of the adult males in the back was severely injured.
According to Engle, the Perry County Sheriff's Office suspects the 16-year-old female driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, leading her to lose control of the vehicle. Following the incident, the driver was charged with a DUI (driving under the influence).
Engle said the department is investigating the incident further, including how the driver of the vehicle was able to possess alcohol before the accident.
The Perry County Sheriff's Office will not be releasing the name of the victim nor the name of the driving of the ATV.
