FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Frankfort man now faces a charge of threatening to assault or kill a federal officer.

Police say 29 year-old Phillip Eugene Morris is charged in connection with an incident that took place at a Frankfort apartment building on April 23.

FBI agents and Frankfort police went to the apartment looking for Frederick McGowan who was wanted for murder in California.

But they say Morris threatened officer and blocked them from entering.

At one point, McGowan walked past Morris and surrendered to authorities.

But police say Morris continued to make threats.

Officers finally took Morris into custody on numerous state charges including assault, terroristic threatening, and obstructing governmental operations.

He has now also been charged with threatening a federal officer, which carries a potential prison sentence of up to eight years.
