BULLITT COUNTY, Ky. (WAVE 3) — A mother is now facing a criminal charge after police say she left her child in an unlocked car before it was stolen earlier this month in Bullitt County.

According to WAVE News, 32 year-old Kayla Simpers has been cited on one count of second-degree wanton endangerment.

Simpers told the TV station that she had stopped to run into a business on December 17th, and left the car running with her 13 month-old daughter inside.

That's when police say 22-year-old Joshua Reynolds jumped inside the car and took off, leading officers on a high-speed chase before crashing on Interstate 65.

Reynolds is charged with kidnapping, theft and DUI.

The child was evaluated at a hospital as a precautionary measure.
