HARLAN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A man has died following a shooting in Harlan County.
Kentucky State Police says it happened at a home off Shope Lane, about a mile outside the Harlan city limits.
Troopers say 59 year-old Richard Cody drove to his estranged wife's home and unlocked the door using his keys.
While inside, KSP says Cody shot multiple rounds, and 39 year-old Matthew Smith was hit
Smith was pronounced dead at the hospital.
After the shooting, KSP says Cody took off for Washington County, Tennessee, where he was tracked down and taken into custody.
Cody is charged with murder and two counts of wanton endangerment.
He is awaiting extradition back to Harlan County.
