(NBC PALM SPRINGS) — A horse belonging to horse racing magnate Bob Baffert has died following an incident at Del Mar Racetrack.
According to NBC Palm Springs, two horses collided during a training exercise at the track. One of the horses that died was trained by Triple Crown winning trainer Baffert who was there when the accident happened.
“I’ve been around a long time, I‘ve never seen anything like that it happened so quick … I’m still shaken up from it,” Baffert told the NBC affiliate.
Baffert explained that a loose horse made a turn in front of three horses running at full speed. One jockey was injured and rider Victor Espinoza narrowly missed the fray.
