(LEX 18) — The Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet will issue a notice of violation to Beam Suntory after bourbon spilled into the Kentucky River following a fire at a storage facility.

The fire, believed to started by lightning strike, destroyed about 45,000 barrels of bourbon.

The runoff is expected to kill a lot of fish and has resulted in warnings for recreational use.

The maximum fine is $25,000 per day until conditions improve.

The Franklin County Emergency Management director said the huge pool of alcohol on the river has made its way out of the county as of Sunday, according to the State Journal.
