Lexington chess player wins second place in chess championship

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — One of the best chess players in the world lives right here in Lexington and he just returned home with the second place prize from the inaugural Senior US Chess Championship.

LEX 18 introduced Gregory Kaidanov, 59, to our audience on July 5, just before he traveled to Saint Louis to join nine other players for the tournament.

After nine rounds, Kaidanov finished second and took home a trophy and $8,000.

In 1988, Kaidanov became a Grandmaster and now has is recognized as one of the foremost instructors in the country.

Kaidanov was inducted into the US Chess Hall of Fame in 2013.
