LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — On Saturday night a number of Lexington firefighters were recognized for their service to the community.
The Lexington Fire Department held their annual awards banquet at the Embassy Suites on Newtown Pike.
Several awards were given out including the firefighter cross which recognizes an act of heroism, bravery and stamina in the face of extreme conditions.
Fire Chief Kristin Chilton said it's a night they spend months planning and preparing for.
"That's very very exciting for us to see all the great work that we do and all the sacrifice we made for the community," said Chilton.
Firefighters who retired or were promoted in the last year were also honored for their achievements.
