LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A man accused in a shooting in downtown Lexington is expected to appear in court Tuesday.

Police arrested Wesley Brown II on Monday morning.

Surveillance footage from an area Marathon gas station helped Lexington police piece together the case against Brown, officials said.

Police say that on the afternoon of June 24, Brown shot someone with a handgun during a confrontation.

His arrest citation says the fight began near the intersection of North Martin Luther King Boulevard and East 3rd Street.

The citation also says the victim also had been shot twice on June 17.

Authorities said Brown is a convicted felon and therefore legally prevented from possessing a firearm.

He was charged with first-degree assault and possession of a hangun by a convicted felon.

Brown was expected to appear in court Tuesday for an initial hearing.
