LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Lexington police officer suffered significant injures when he was assaulted by a man at a hospital on Sunday.

Police were called to the St. Joseph East Hospital on North Eagle Creek Road around 9:30 a.m.

Police say Michael B. Terry, 29, was causing a scene in the emergency room. As officers tried to arrest Terry, he got a "sharp object" and stabbed one of the officers in the upper torso, according to police.

Terry has been charged with second degree assault against an officer, resisting arrest, menacing and disorderly conduct.

Terry was booked into the Fayette County Detention Center.

The officer has been reported as stable and alert.
