LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department has reported that there are 141 lab-confirmed cases of the flu.

LFCHD spokesperson Kevin Hall says that is only a fraction of the actual cases that are happening in the area. The total is up 77 cases since last week and almost 100 more than this time last year.

Peak flu season in Kentucky is late January until early February. Health officials encourage residents to get the flu vaccine.

The CDC reports that Kentucky is still at "widespread" status.
