LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Thousands of children across the state of Kentucky struggle to stay warm once the temperatures drop.

That's why community activist and hip-hop artist, Devine Carama started his annual Believing in Forever Inc. coat drive.

This year his goal is to collect 2,920 winter coats. Once they are collected they will be given out to schools and homes around central and eastern Kentucky.

All of the coats that Carama gives out are brand new, and he says for some kids it's the first new thing they've ever owned.

"The number one thing we get when we get letters from kids is 'I couldn't believe it was brand new.' Which a lot of people question why we do brand new coats, because it's not just providing a warm coat for the winter, but we are inspiring these kids who may not get very many brand new things," said Carama.

Carama says Wednesday, Dec. 18, is the absolute last day they can accept donations. Coats or money can be dropped at the Plantory, located at 501 W. 6th Street, Suite 250, Lexington, Kentucky.
