LOUISVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18) — In Louisville, investigators said a man drowned trying to save his girlfriend as they kayaked on the Ohio River.
The trouble started around 9:00 p.m. on Saturday when three kayakers, all from Oldham County, headed back to shore.
Officials said the woman's kayak hit a wave and turned over. So her boyfriend, 28-year-old Travis Hughes, tried to help, but his kayak capsized too.
His body was found about three hours later.
His girlfriend swam to an island and wasn't hurt.
