LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Back to school events are kicking off all across Lexington and Tuesday, the Salvation Army's Boys and Girls Club in Lexington loaded up on essentials for the school year.
The event was a surprise for 120 kids. It started out with storytime from Cinderella and was followed by a visit from Spiderman. Then, each child picked out their own backpack that was loaded with school supplies and Disney books.
A treat for the Boys and Girls Club of the Bluegrass - they’re getting to pick out backpacks and books with the help of some of their favorite characters! @feedthechildren and @Fazolis are teaming up for the special event...they’re getting some good eats too 😋 pic.twitter.com/Mp6gVpcw0G

"We don't want anyone left behind, so providing hope and these resources and essentials to get back into the school year is what we are here to do today," said Jessica Gilliam with Feed the Children.
The event was a partnership between Fazoli's and Feed the Children. In addition to the backpacks and books, each child's family took home a 25 pound box of food and 10 pound box of essentials like personal care items.
"We love being part of this community and giving back," said Jodie Conrad the Vice President of Marketing of Fazoli's.
Items that take away the distraction of worry for children and their parents making sure they are as equipped as possible when the first school bell rings. The back to school celebration ended with a big Italian feast for the kids from Fazoli's.
