WOODFORD COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — The Lighthouse Apostolic Church of Versailles spent Labor Day making winter-readiness backpacks for those living on the streets.

Jolene Davis, who attends the the church, got the idea a few months ago after seeing posts on Facebook encouraging Random Acts of Kindness. Davis' church group calls themselves RAKtivists.

The group started by passing out snacks with notes on them, then they got a little more ambitious.

"We made up 85+ blessing bags with everything you would need in it," Davis told LEX 18's Claire Crouch.

Now Davis, who has two full-time jobs, is going even bigger. Davis and the other RAKtivists are stuffing winter backpacks for the homeless.

"This is something I'm really passionate about so I make time for it," said Davis.

Each week, a group from the church gets together and packs the bags with everything someone living on the streets would need to make the winter a little more bearable. She said that they packed gloves, scarves, hats, blankets, and pillows.

The plan is to pass the bags out in October. Davis would love to have 100 in total.

"We wanna pack them as full as they can, so when we give it to them, it really will be a blessing and they'll have pretty much everything they need," Davis said.
