SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A man accused of beating his caretaker to death last summer in Georgetown appeared in court for a competency hearing, where a judge ruled that he was not competent to stand trial at this time.

Police said Hunter Moore fatally beat 53-year-old Denise Hamilton with a baseball bat in August 2018. The slaying occurred at a home on Markham Drive in Georgetown. Authorities said Moore claimed God told him to "beat the demon from the woman downstairs."

Police had been called out to the home several times prior to the slaying. At the time, neighbors expressed shock but not surprise.

The judge ruled that Moore should be held in the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center for 60 days in hopes that he may regain competency. A status hearing has been set for Oct. 4.
