Man accused of firing shots near BCTC Newtown Campus arrested

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A man accused of firing multiple gunshots near Bluegrass Community & Technical College Newtown Campus has been arrested.

Lexington Police say that 21-year-old Daquis Sharp has been charged with Wanton Endangerment 1st, Criminal Mischief 1st, Fleeing/Evading Police 2nd, and Tampering with Physical Evidence.

Police say that around noon on Wednesday, officers responded to a report of a man shooting a gun at the corner of Newtown Pike and Booker Street near the college.

Officers located a pickup truck that had been struck several times. Police say that no one was injured.

Witnesses reported that the suspect fled in a silver Dodge Charger, which officers located later Wednesday afternoon in the Woodhill area. The driver, 22-year-old Deangreco Brown, was charged with drug and firearm offenses.

The passenger fled from officers and was identified as Sharp. He was apprehended Thursday.

Sharp and Brown are in the Fayette County Detention Center.
