WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — The case against a man accused of killing his girlfriend in Whitley County has been handed off to a grand jury.

Police named Nicholas Rucker as a suspect in the death of his girlfriend, Vicki Conner, on May 22 of this year. According to Roger Witt, the trailer's owner, Rucker claimed that Conner had shot herself.

Witt said that Rucker came out of the bedroom holding a fun in the palm of his hand and this is when he yelled that Conner shot herself. Rucker was covered in blood and ran off when Witt called 911 and tried to help Conner.

Authorities found Conner shot to death in a Woodbine home.

According to police, there were five other people inside the trailer when Conner was shot, but only Rucker was in the same room as Conner.

The month long manhunt for Rucker ended on July 4 with his arrest at a Knox County home.

Rucker appeared in court in Whitley County and pleaded not guilty to murder and several other charges.

On Tuesday, a judge found probable cause to proceed to the Grand Jury.

Rucker's next court date is scheduled for August 19.
