WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — The man accused of planning a mass shooting attack last fall at a manufacturing business in Washington County is due in court Wednesday.
Matthew Smith was arrested in November outside of LB Manufacturing in Springfield.
An employee noticed Smith outside and alerted authorities. When police arrived, officials said, they found Smith in a vehicle with an arsenal of guns and ammunition.
Investigators said Smith pointed a gun at an officer before he was taken into custody.
Smith is scheduled to have a pretrial hearing Wednesday afternoon in Washington County Circuit Court.
"I really don't think the community wants to see him back out on the street until he serves some time and gets his life straightened out," said resident Joe Carpenter.
Smith faces several charges, including attempted murder, wanton endangerment of a police officer, resisting arrest and criminal trespassing.
