HARDINSBURG, Ky (LEX 18) — Kentucky State Police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run Saturday morning that killed an 8-year-old boy.

The Breckenridge County Sheriff's Office responded to the incident just after 11:30 a.m. on KY 259 South.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2009 Pontiac Torrent was traveling north on the road when it hit an 8-year-old boy. He was apparently standing on the edge of the road getting mail from the mailbox. Police say that Bradley Mattingly, 35, was driving the car.

A trooper on the way to the scene spotted Mattingly's car less than 15 minutes after KSP was notified.

Mattingly is charged with leaving the scene of an accident and reckless homicide. He is being held in the Breckenridge Detention Center.
