Man sentenced to prison after shooting dog 11 times

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) - — A Lexington man has been sentenced to prison after shooting a dog 11 times.

According to a post from the Fayette County Commonwealth's Attorney, Jeremy Lawton was sentenced to 11 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to torture of an animal, being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, bail jumping and being a persistent felony offender.

The shooting happened in 2017. Commonwealth's Attorney Lou Anna Red Corn confirms that Lawton shot the dog 11 times and then left the dog to die underneath his home in the Eastland Parkway neighborhood. When police responded they found the dog alive, but the animal passed away sometime later.
