MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Berea police are searching for a man who stole a bank full of donations for the Children’s Miracle Network from a Walmart in Berea.

The man parked his car in front of the Walmart entrance at 2:54 a.m. on Saturday and drove off with the coin machine three minutes later. The theft wasn’t reported to police until 6 p.m.

Employees told police they didn’t notice anyone come in or leave the store around that time.

“Some of the employees at Walmart had noticed the machine was missing. So they asked loss prevention if someone had came and taken it away,” explained BPD Officer Amanda Chitwood.

Police estimate $500 in donations were inside the bank.

Children's Miracle Network is a non-profit that raises money for children's hospitals, research and medical equipment, and raises awareness for childhood illnesses. The money in the donation bank would have been used to help sick children.

Chitwood told LEX 18 investigators aren’t sure whether the man is local to Berea because of the constant flow of traffic I-75 brings to the store.

BPD is asking anyone with information about the case to call 859-986-8456.
