LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Matt Jones has a message for Amy McGrath and the national Democrats: Not so fast.

The news of McGrath entering the race to challenge Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in 2020 largely has overlooked the first step she must make: securing the Democratic nomination.

But it's not going unnoticed by Jones, the Kentucky Sports Radio and "Hey Kentucky" host who is among the higher profile potential Democratic candidates.

Jones, who previously boasted to Politico that he, and only he, could beat McConnell, confirmed to LEX 18 that he is still considering his options.

On his radio show Tuesday, Jones acknowledged that McGrath's national attention makes his possible bid more difficult.

"I've expressed interest. The national Democratic Party has decided that they believe Amy McGrath is the person to run against (McConnell) and I respect that," he said. "But I want you to know that hasn't made my decision for me. I am going to think about it and still make my own decision."
