WASHINGTON, D.C. (LEX 18) — Mitch McConnell's campaign is wasting no time hitting back at Democratic candidate Amy McGrath. Within an hour of McGrath announcing her plans to run for the Democratic primary for McConnell's seat, the campaign launched the website WrongPathMcGrath.com

"Amy McGrath lost her only race in a Democratic wave election because she is an extreme liberal who is far out of touch with Kentuckians. Comparing President Trump’s election to 9/11, endorsing a government takeover of healthcare, and calling the wall “stupid” is a heckuva platform that we will be delighted to discuss over the next sixteen months," McConnell campaign manager Kevin Golden said in a statement sent to LEX 18.

The website urges voters to "warn their friends" about McGrath's liberal views.

McGrath ran an unsuccessful campaign against Andy Barr, but she received national attention during her run. In a video entitled 'The Letter," McGrath announced that she would run against the Senate Majority leader.

"It started with this man," McGrath says, tying the political dysfunction and hyper-partisan divide gripping Washington to McConnell's long tenure. She goes on to charge that McConnell has "bit by bit, year by year, turned Washington into something we all despise."

Almost immediately, Team Mitch (McConnell's staff's twitter) tweeted a video saying "Welcome to the race, Amy." In the video, McGrath's photos were placed alongside Elizabeth Warren and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as soundbites of her political views played.
