BRENTWOOD, Tenn. — Media members from around the Ohio Valley Conference picked the Eastern Kentucky University football team to finish third in the conference this season, the league announced today from its Brentwood, Tennessee headquarters.
EKU accumulated 99 points in the media poll. Jacksonville State sits atop the poll after receiving all 15 first-place votes and a total of 135 points. Southeast Missouri was picked second with 115 points.
The conference will release its preseason poll and All-OVC team, as voted on by league head coaches and communications directors, on Monday during the league’s annual Media Day in Nashville.
The Colonels ended the 2018 season with four straight wins and were in the conversation for a playoff spot. Eastern Kentucky finished 7-4 overall and third in the OVC with a 5-2 mark. Eastern beat Southeast Missouri last year, 23-14.
EKU is ranked 24th in the Preseason HERO Sports top 25 and 25th in the Lindy’s Sports Preseason Top 25.

The pollsters for the 2019 OVC Media Poll included: Bob Belvin, ESPN Clarksville; Mike Bradd, Eastern Illinois Radio; Neal Bradley, Murray State Radio; Craig Haley, STATS; Sam Herder, HERO Sports; Edward Marlowe, Paducah Sun; Brian McLaughlin, HERO Sports; Mike Organ, Tennessean; Mike Parris, Jacksonville State Radio Network; Brian Rives, Governors Sports Network; Greg Stotelmyer, Eastern Kentucky Sports Network; Van Stokes, ESPN Clarksville; Kevin Taylor, The Gadsden Times; Kevin Weaks, Union City Messenger.
The media panel tabbed Austin Peay (84) fourth, followed by Tennessee State (75) in fifth. Tennessee-Martin (58) was sixth and Murray State (55) seventh. Eastern Illinois (38) and Tennessee Tech (16) rounded out the poll at eighth and ninth respectively.
