New chief of staff, deputy operations chief named for guard

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — The Kentucky National Guard has a new Army chief of staff and Army deputy chief of operations.

Col. Joe Gardner was chosen as chief of staff, replacing Brig. Gen. Bryan Howay, Adjutant General Brig. Gen. Haldane Lamberton announced Tuesday. Howay was recently promoted.

Col. J.B. Richmond is the new deputy chief of operations, filling the position Gardner previously held, the guard said in a news release.

Gardner has been a chemical and engineer officer and has more than 27 years of service in the guard, the release said.

Richmond has more than 28 years of service in the guard and is a career engineer officer.

Gardner and Richmond are both Morehead State University alumni and graduates of the Army War College.
