FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — If you know a Kentucky educator worthy of being named teacher of the year, then now is the time to say so.
The Kentucky Department of Education said on Wednesday that it would begin accepting nominations for the award.
Any full-time public school teacher with at least three years of experience is eligible. Nominations can come from students, parents, teachers, administrators or community members.
The deadline for nominations is Feb. 15. Nominated teachers must fill out and submit an application that will be judged in March by a panel of educational professions.
That panel will choose up to 24 Valvoline Teacher Achievement Award winners in the spring, which will be narrowed to nine and then to three before the winner is announced in Frankfort.
The educator named teacher of the year gets a $10,000 cash prize and will represent the state in the National Teacher of the Year competition.
