According to WAVE in Louisville, the Louisville Metro Health and Wellness said mosquitoes caught a surveillance trap place in a Louisville ZIP Code have tested positive for the West Nile Virus.
WAVE reported that the trap was placed in the 40215 ZIP Code, but they were not given a specific location.
In a statment obtained by WAVE, Dr. Sarah Moyer, the directory of the Louisville Metro Health and Wellness, said:
"While West Nile positive mosquitoes are not unusual for this time of year, this indicates that West Nile infected mosquitoes are now present throughout our community. We advise everyone to take the appropriate precautions no matter what ZIP Code you live in. You should wear insect repellent if you go outside during dusk or dawn and should remove standing water around your home."
According to WAVE, Metro Health said there have been no cases of West Nile reported in humans in Louisville this year so far. In 2018, there were four cases reported, but no deaths. There was only one non-fatal case in 2017.
