Jill Szwed – LEX 18 Weekend Meteorologist

Jill Szwed joined the LEX 18 StormTracker weather team as the weekend meteorologist in May 2016, and she is thrilled to call the bluegrass home!

Family and friends knew from an early age that Jill wanted to be a meteorologist. Her interest in the weather began in her sixth grade science class and her passion grew through experiencing severe flooding, countless snowstorms, and a tornado that hit the downtown area of her hometown Pittsburgh, PA.

Jill graduated with a degree in Meteorology and Communication from Saint Louis University, home of the Billikens.

Before moving to Lexington, Jill began her broadcasting career in Clarksburg, WV as the morning and noon meteorologist at WDTV. She had the challenge of forecasting everything the four seasons in the Mountain State have to offer from a 26-inch snowstorm to several tornadoes to flash flooding. Jill and the WDTV 5 News Daybreak team were honored to be named the “Best AM Newscast” by the West Virginia Broadcasters Association.

An enthusiastic “foodie,” Jill can’t wait to dine at the great restaurants in Lexington as well as try new recipes in her own kitchen. Recently she re-connected with her life-long love for dance by enrolling in classes with the Lexington Ballet. And as a true native Pittsburgher, Jill is an avid black and gold fan. If the Stanley Cup Champion Penguins, the Steelers, or especially the Pirates are playing, she’s cheering them on!

Jill is excited to expand her experiences by learning and enjoying everything “Lexington”…as well as meeting the great viewers of LEX 18.
