LONDON, Ky. (LEX News) — Two hikers were rescued late Sunday night after becoming lost in a remote area near Laurel Lake, according to the London-Laurel Rescue Squad.
The London-Laurel County 911 Center notified emergency responders at approximately 11 p.m. about two lost hikers in the Marsh Branch area of Laurel Lake, rescue officials said.
Dispatchers were able to provide responders with coordinates for the hikers' location. Rescue crews followed the coordinates and located a fire the hikers had built, helping guide responders to their position.
The hikers were found and safely transported back to a nearby boat ramp, according to the rescue squad.
The Laurel County Sheriff's Office also responded to the scene.
No injuries were reported, and officials did not release the identities of the hikers. According to the rescue squad, the operation ended with both individuals safely returned from the wooded area.
