LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– Two people face charges after crashing their car when fleeing from police.

A little after midnight Thursday, police were checking on a suspicious vehicle on Cambridge Drive.

Police say they were speaking with the female driver and male passenger, when the driver suddenly sped off, almost hitting an officer’s foot in the process. But shortly after, the car crashed into a wooded area off Oxford Circle.

They fled on foot, but officers caught up with and arrested the two on Versailles Road.

Lexington Police say Ashley Clem and James Lewis are now facing a laundry list of charges. Clem was charged with assault, criminal mischief, possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of fleeing, giving false information, harassment, leaving the scene of an accident, theft of identity and wanton endangerment.

Lewis, the passenger, was charged with fleeing.
