Army IDs 2 Killed In Fort Campbell Copter Crash

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE3) — The U.S. Army has identified the two soldiers killed Friday evening in a helicopter crash at Fort Campbell.

WAVE3 reports here that the two soldiers were identified as Chief Warrant Officer 3 Ryan Connolly and Warrant Officer James Casadona.

Both were with the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division. They were killed in an AH-64E Apache helicopter crash in the local training area on Fort Campbell, Fort Campbell officials said.

Fort Campbell Fire and Emergency Services are continuing to work the crash scene.

Connolly, 37, who joined the Army in 2001, was a highly decorated instructor pilot.

Casadona, 28, who joined the Army in 2012, also received several commendations.

"This is a day of sadness for Fort Campbell and the 101st Airborne," sai Brig. Gen. Todd Royar, acting senior commander of the 101st Airborne Division and Fort Campbell. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families during this difficult time."
