MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– A pedestrian was hit after allegedly stepping into traffic Sunday.

It happened around 12:07 p.m. on Highland Church Road.

According to sheriff’s officials, 69-year-old Stephen Buckman stated that he had gone to check his mail and claims a small dog was in the roadway. He advised he tried to get the dog out of the roadway and then turned back toward his house where he stepped into the front fender of a truck operated by 63-year-old Steven Harned.

Harned and a witness both stated that Buckman appeared to have sped up his steps when he saw the truck approaching.

Officials say Harned took all necessary evasive actions to try and avoid the collision, but was unable to stop prior to Buckman running into the side of the truck.

Harned was given field sobriety test at the scene and the test verified that he was not under the influence of any intoxicating substance or alcohol.

However, alcohol is an apparent contributing factor on Buckmans’ behalf.

He was transported to a local hospital with incapacitating injuries.
