BEREA, Ky. (LEX 18) – A Madison County man was tased after a brief foot pursuit, Madison County Sheriff’s officials report.

It happened Thursday morning just before 3 a.m. A deputy initiated a traffic stop and quickly determined that the driver, James Bellando, had an active warrant.

The sheriff reports that when Bellando was being told he was being taken into custody he ran.  After a short foot pursuit, the suspect fell to the ground. Officials say he continued to resist and at that point, the deputy deployed his Taser.

The deputy called for backup and Bellando was finally cuffed.

As a result of a search, officers seized approximately 22.5 grams of suspected Methamphetamine.

Bellando was arrested and charged with No Tail Lamps, No Registration Plates, Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (Foot), Resisting Arrest, Menacing, Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree, 1st Offense (Methamphetamine), Failure of Owner to Maintain Required Insurance, 1st Offense in addition to the active warrant for Non-Payment of Fines.

He was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.
