LEXINGTON, Ky (LEX 18) Anderson Communities has released a letter responding to the deed restrictions in McConnell’s Trace that restricts several dog breeds.

Anderson Communities sent out a letter last week alerting residents that a change in the deed restrictions meant that German Shepherds, Pit Bulls (including American Staffordshire Terriers, American Pit Bull Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, or "any dog containing characteristics of these breeds"), Huskies, Rottweilers, Mastiffs, Doberman Pinschers, Alaskan Malamutes, Chows, Great Danes, St. Bernards, and Akitas are now prohibited.

Pets already living in the neighborhood are grandfathered in, but many homeowners were outraged by the letter.

Anderson Communities said in the letter that the "level and tone of discussion" resulted from "incomplete communication".

They claim that since 2006, no homeowner has been cited and no dog has been removed from McConnell’s Trace as a result of the restriction. Anderson Communities said that the list of prohibited breeds is derived from data published at the time by the CDC listing the breeds most commonly responsible for fatal attacks.
