LEXINGTON, Ky (LEX 18) A very special addition to the Kentucky Horse Park has finally been placed on the grounds. The statue honors Sergeant Reckless, who was not just a horse, but a Marine.

Sergeant Reckless was a small Mongolian mare who earned much love and respect from her fellow Marines.

She was purchased in 1954 and trained to carry ammunition to the front lines during the Korean War, as well as carry the wounded and dead back to the grounds. She did all of this by herself.

She will be memorialized at the International Museum of the Horse, a Smithsonian affiliate, located at the Kentucky Horse Park.

Although the statue was placed on the grounds Monday, a formal dedication ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 12.
