LONDON, Ky. (LEX 18) –  After a delay in his case, Richie Farmer, a former University of Kentucky basketball player and Kentucky politician, was scheduled to appear in court again Tuesday.

However, after the delay, he did not show up to court. His attorney appeared on his behalf to enter a not guilty plea.

Farmer’s absence was excused. He was arrested last month on DUI charges. Police say he admitted to taking two hydrocodone pills and two muscle relaxants but refused to take a blood test.

The former Mr. Kentucky Basketball became the state’s agriculture commissioner in 2004.  He was later sentenced to 27 months in prison for abusing his power in office by putting his friends on the payroll and using taxpayer dollars to buy personal gifts.

His next court date will be May 15.
