BEREA, Ky. (Richmond Register) — A Berea man has pleaded not guilty in a January stabbing death.

The Richmond Register reports here that Ricky D. Arvin, 40, entered the plea in the death of 43-year-old Jay Drake.

Arvin was arrested Jan. 23 and initially charged with assault. Drake, also of Berea, was pronounced dead later at an area hospital, and the charge against Arvin was upgraded to murder.

Arvin allegedly told police the stabbing was in self-defense.

Arvin is being held in the Madison County Detention Center.
