LEXINGTON, Ky (LEX 18) This time of year, the Lexington Humane Society always sees an increase in kittens coming through the door.

"To be able to save more lives we are asking the community’s help and we have some specific requests for our foster care program," said Ashley Hammond with the Lexington Humane Society.

When a kitten is young, it has a lot of needs that can be addressed through fostering, but the Lexington Humane Society just used their last Kitten Kit for foster homes. Kitten Kits are given to people fostering kittens, so the humane society can try and supply them with the things they will need.

They are in desperate need for donations of several different items including formula, heating pads, Purina kitten chow, and unscented baby wipes. You can order those supplies through their Amazon Smile Wish List and have the donations shipped directly to the Humane Society of just bring them by on your own.

"We rely on our community a lot and we have such a wonderful, caring and, giving community," said Hammond.

Another way you can help is by making space for when these kittens are strong enough to be put up for adoption.

"Once an animal is adopted it allows for another animal to come down to the adoption floor for a chance to find their forever home," she said.
