LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – Students across the country plan to walk out of class at 10 a.m. local time.

Locally, many schools are allowing students to walk out to continue safety conversation. Earlier this week, the Kentucky Education Association asked students and staff to wear blue and orange, in honor of those who lost their lives in the Marshall County High School shooting.

Students in Scott County plan to walk out of the doors at 10 a.m.  Once outside, they plan to share speeches, poems and have a moment of silence to recognize the people who have lost their lives in gun violence and school shootings.

Along with the walkout, the Department of Education is asking that every school start their day with two minutes of silence before school begins in memory of Preston Cope and Bailey Holt, the two students who died in Marshall County High School.
