PULASKI COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) – Saturday kids took to the field in honor of a Pulaski County man killed in a November plane crash.
The first annual Doug Whitaker Memorial Softball Tournament was held, with two of his daughters taking part
Whitaker died when the small plane he was in crashed in barren county while on his way back from a hunting trip last
Since then, thecommunity has come together to help his family.
Science Hill Middle School softball coach Rodney Todd coaches two of Whitaker’s daughters, Bailey and Kylie. He was inspired to put together the tournament because he described Whitaker as one of the most selfless people he had ever met.
While several teams battled it out on the field, Todd says all of the money raised will go straight to the family and they hope to make the tournament an annual event.
