WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) – A 6-year-old girl is stable after a crash involving a Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy.

The crash occurred at US 25 and Carl Crowley Road at 8 a.m. Police say a sheriff’s deputy was responding to a call and was making a turn to get to the location. A woman driving behind him didn’t realize he was turning and couldn’t stop in time.

The woman had two children, a 6-year-old and a 4-year-old. Both children were in car seats, but the 6-year-old was close to the point of impact. As a precaution, she was airlifted to UT Hospital in Knoxville.

The 4-year-old was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The deputy was also taken to the hospital for back pain but he has been released. He was helping the girls when other first responders arrived.

The mother was uninjured.

Police believe the cause of the crash is weather-related.
