FRANKFORT, Ky (LEX 18) After being saved from closing earlier this year, the owners of a Pic Pac supermarket, a staple of downtown Frankfort, are getting a boost from the community once again.

Danny Bryant, the owner of Bryant’s Pic Pac, has worked at or managed the supermarket in some capacity since 1976. He has not taken a vacation in 26 years.

"It’s rough running an independent grocery store and you need to be here," he said.

When stranger Mariane Braden caught wind of that news several months ago when the store was in danger of having to close down due to rising costs. Thankfully, the store was saved, but Braden wasn’t satisfied. So at the beginning of March, she started a fundraising effort to send Danny Bryant and his wife, Shelia, on a much-deserved vacation.

"I thought we owe Danny Bryant a big thank you," said Braden.

After a write up in the State Journal, $625 was collected for the Bryants. Braden presented him with the check on Wednesday.

"It was just wonderful, gave him a big hug and wish him a happy vacation," she said.

Bryant said it probably won’t be until the Fall that he gets out of town.

"Like I told her, I’m way past a beach now in life," he said. "You know you’d like to thank each and every one of them, but you don’t even know who they are, they’re just anonymous people but it’s really nice to be thought of…it’s really nice."

A local Frankfort travel agency has now offered to donate a free trip for Danny Bryant. A GoFundMe is still accepting donations for him. Click here to donate.
