LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE 3)– Police in Louisville say what started with a dispute among family members ended in an officer-involved shooting.

This is now the fourth time Louisville Metro Police Officers have opened fire on a suspect this month.

The LMPD chief says that dispute among family members is the reason they were first called to the scene in the Shawnee neighborhood.

Officers began talking to some family members outside the home on 42nd Street about one family member who was still inside.

The officers went inside the home and that’s when things escalated.

WAVE 3 News reports the suspect set the house on fire while officers tried taking him into custody.

"He was armed with multiple knives. At some point, one of the officers was injured with one of the knives. The other officer involved in the shooting, shots were fired," said LMPD Chief Steve Conrad.

The suspect and injured officer were rushed to UofL Hospital, where the suspect later died.

The officer is being treated and is expected to recover.
