RICHMOND, Ky. (LEX 18) — The third annual Officer Daniel Ellis Memorial 5K kicked off Saturday morning.
The event is a way for the Richmond community to celebrate the life and legacy that Ellis left behind.
Ellis was killed in November 2015 the line of duty during a robbery investigation.
Ellis widow, Kate Ellis, says the support from the community has been overwhelming.
"It’s truly amazing," she said. "Richmond and the larger community here around central Kentucky has been a family. Daniel and I couldn’t have picked a better place to raise our family and live. I’m glad to stay and be apart of this community."
Proceeds from the race will go to help those in need throughout Madison County.
